The greenest island in the Aegean Sea!!! Skopelos is one of the islands of the Northern Sporades. Its area is approximately 96 sq. km. and a circumference of 67 km. There are two mountains, Palouki (565 meters high) and Delphi (680 m height). It is filled with dense pine forests, covering nearly 80% of the island area. It belongs to the Province of Skopelos, Prefecture Magnesia, in Thessaly. The municipality of Skopelos is populated of 4696 inhabitants according to 2001 census.



It keeps its traditional character!!! In northern and eastern side of Skopelos, the coast is rocky, while the south and west slopes create the beautiful green beaches. On the south side there are the most popular and easily accessible beaches, as Stafylos, Velanio, Agnontas, Limnonari, Panormos, Milia, Kastani,Elios, Armenopetra and many others, “drowned” in green forest. Skopelos is an island that surely will fascinate you with the beauty of both land and sea. The bottom topography is breathtaking which allows fishing from a small submarine hunter, but with great potential, and a good catch. You will find many good restaurants where you can taste …your gains. The town of Skopelos!!! The traditional architecture causes concern not only for ordinary tourists, but artists, painters, photographers and individual scholars. Built on a steep slope in the majority are not accessible by car. You should go up stairs, to climb uphill and walk enough through the cobblestone paths, to discover the 120 Byzantine churches, ruins of 13th century Venetian Castle and the quiet small squares with the background of the Aegean Sea. It is a traditional island town- called Chora, with distinctive architecture and beautiful streets. It has been declared a traditional settlement. The country and the entire island is full of old traditional churches, chapels and monasteries. The “Chora” of Skopelos is the commercial center of the island and also the main port of the island. Just over half of the inhabitants live here as well as at the other villages: Glossa, Loutraki –the second port of Skopelos, Palio Klima and the nowadays built Neo Klima-Elios.
